The course, designed by James Braid, is 6731 yards par 72 from the Championship tees and offers an excellent test of golf for players of all levels.

The course opened for play in 1947, having moved from the Markeaton Golf Club, which is now the site of Derby University, Kedleston Road Campus. The greens where reconstructed in the late 1990's to USPGA sand based specifications.
