36 HOLES MEDAL SCRATCH EVENT BURTON-ON-TRENT GOLF CLUB - SUNDAY 27th AUGUST 2017

Congratulations to Midland Champion, Ryan Wesselingh for winning the Derbyshire Open 2017

Ryan (Kedleston Park), who won the Midland Amateur Championship in June and the next day was in play off with Matt Housley for the Amateur Championship at Chevin in June this year, took the lead in the morning round by just 1 shot, with a gross 69 (2 under par), Dean Hibbert (Professional) and Mark Parker (Burton on Trent) were close on his heels with a round of 70. Two of the other Professionals, Chris Rippon and James Whatley (twice previous winner), were again just 1 shot back both sitting at even Par. Cameron Long (Burton on Trent) was 2 over for the morning.

So it was anyone’s game as they started the afternoon round, Long shot an impressive 3 under taking him into the lead with a Total of 140, his lead was short lived as Wesselingh came in 1 under to take the Championship with a gross 139 – just 1 shot!

This is the first time Ryan has won the Derbyshire Open Championship, but he is continuing in his father’s footsteps as Dad, Paul, won it twice (2008 & 2011).
